Birthday boy turns 4!

Fischer turned 4 today! (I know the candle says 1, but that was all we had!) We made a yellow cake with chocolate frosting. All he ate was the frosting. He requested that his crown have a flying dinosaur on it with one horn. He chose the colors. He really liked it except he was wondering why it didn't have claws on the wings like it is supposed to have. He doesn't miss a thing when it comes to dinosaurs. Next week we are taking him to "Walking with Dinosaurs" down in Boise. Hopefully it doesn't scare him too much. He's excited to get to Wisconsin because he has more Christmas and birthday presents there! Two more weeks!

tis the season

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Ours was nice and mellow. We had plenty of good food, friends and a lot of snow! Fischer decorated a gingerbread house a few weeks ago. Everyday it seems as if it has less and less candy on its roof top and the candy canes have also gone missing?
Amelia looked like a little elf on Christmas Eve, or perhaps a little Who from Whoville. Fischer had a blast on Christmas morning. He was quite surprised to find Santa had come during the night. He was afraid Santa had ran out of presents. All of it was a bit overwhelming for the little guy, but he is already asking if Santa is coming again soon. Only a few more weeks left here in Idaho. We've been very busy packing. Hopefully we have a little window of nice weather for the trip across country. Right now the weather calls for snow everyday for the next week!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We finally have some snow on the ground! We were starting to wonder if we were going to have a white Christmas or not. We went and got our tree on Sunday and for the first time there wasn't any snow in the forest. It felt strange. The snow though has finally arrived! Fischer was excited to finally get to use his new skis that Jimmy got at a yard sale this past summer. It took him a little bit to figure them out. He kept crossing his skis and falling. He seems to be getting the hang of it.
The Christmas tree is up in the living room Amelia doesn't seem to bother it too much. We didn't put much on the bottom branches to attract her.

Little Frog

Amelia was pulling her little wooden frog all over the house today. She is starting to figure out how to pull it with out tipping it over or tripping over the rope.

The kids

Fischer likes to pull all the blankets out of our coffee table and play in it with his animals. Last evening he fell asleep in it. It's the perfect size for him. It looked pretty cozy in there.

Amelia figured out how to climb onto this little chair. It makes her look like such a big girl in it. I think she also felt pretty cool sitting up like that. Hopefully she doesn't try standing up on it.

Ahoy mate

We found some pirate accessories while packing. Fischer enjoyed playing the part. Fischer built a pirate ship in our living room to hide out in. Any adult would think it was just a pile of pillows and blankets over a chair, but to a toddler it is a ship on the wide open sea. He still doesn't believe me as to why pirates have a hook and an eye patch. He says "that's silly".

Holiday happenings

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. I was supposed to work but ended up being on call because the hospital was slow. This allowed me to go with Jimmy and the kids to our friends house for dinner. It worked out very well. We had a delicious turkey which they cooked on the grill. We had at least 5 different pies! Lots of good eating. Fischer and Amelia had fun playing with the other kids that were there.

Hot Springs

We went down to Zims Hot Springs today. It was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the 30's. Perfect day for relaxing in the hot springs. It was a much needed break from the stress of moving. We need to take advantage of the natural hot springs a few times before we move. Amelia seemed to enjoy it. Fischer brought his swimming dinosaurs with. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

Glimpses

Here is a little glimpse into our day today. A little bit of packing, playing and as usual, mess making. I pack things into boxes and they pull them back out. Fischer likes to use the boxes for forts or for his animals, or sometimes just to chase poor Cosmo around the house with. Luckily Amelia can't climb into them yet. I have been busy cleaning out closets, which they love to "help" with. Fischer likes to tell me that I am making a big mess. Sometimes you have to make a mess to get it clean? It feels good to purge. A big yard sale is just around the corner. It will probably end up being in the middle of a snow storm. It's amazing how much stuff you can accumulate.

Birthday girl

Amelia turned one yesterday! I made her a little birthday crown, which didn't stay on for very long. I also made her a stuffed owl out of an old sweater and a book with pictures of her first year. Fischer had fun singing happy birthday to her and blowing out the candle. Wow, time goes by way too fast!

Happy Halloween!

Fischer and Amelia have been busy with Halloween activities. Yesterday they went to the Halloween party at the library. Today they went trick or treating at the hospital. Fischer had his face painted there and did the cake walk. Tonight will be some more fun and treats at the middle school, followed by a Halloween party at the ice rink. Amelia has been going as a chicken and Fischer as an alligator. Very cute!

Little hands

Little hands were at work here. Lining the old thread up all in a row. Jimmy found a bunch of old thread on wooden spools at a yard sale. The colors are beautiful and I enjoyed the randomness of the colors all lined up. Now that they are all lined up, counted and favorite colors chosen, I'm not sure what we will do with them next.

All Bundled Up

The kids aren't wearing their snow pants yet, but it is getting close. Mornings have been pretty chilly here, down to 14 degrees a few times. It is becoming more of a production to get the kids ready for our runs, with all the layers that I have to put them in. They don't seem to mind though.
Amelia's first birthday is coming up soon. I started making a little book for her. It is a mixture of collage and painting. I'm using old book covers for each page. This is what I have so far, the cover and her first Christmas. I plan on doing a page for each month.
